A great sense of pride came to florists in Devon in August as the manager of Yvonne’s flower shop in Plymouth performed a skydive to raise money for charity.

Ms Heidi Blake jumped out of a plane at 15000 feet and raised more than £500 for St Luke’s Hospice in the process. The florist was keen to raise money for charity in a completely alternative manner, a manner that frankly is not normally associated with florists.

Her bravery and charitable nature didn’t go unnoticed as florists in Oxford and as far as London stepped up their bids to raise more money for charity. Ms Blake, as her colleague Libby Carswell pointed out, is terrified of heights, which makes the fact that she completed the dive from such a great height even more impressive.

The florist, which is one of the most established in Plymouth, raises money for charity every year, working closely with St Luke’s Hospice, as well as The Poppy Appeal and Breast Cancer Care. It is not everyday that a florist is seen jumping from a plane in a bid to raise money, so Ms Blake has set a new standard this year.

She and her staff will no doubt continue in their efforts to raise money for these charities, but she has set herself and, indeed, other florists, a very high standard for fundraising events of the future.

Florists all over the land were impressed with her bravery and will no doubt be keen to replicate her exploits in their own fundraising events, though many will have to work hard to reach the same level as the manager from Yvonne’s in Plymouth.

Yvonne’s has been providing beautiful flowers to the public for over four decades now and continues to work with the local community to raise awareness for local charities and increase interest in the world of floristry.

It works closely with Interflora to provide the best flowers Exeter, Plymouth and the whole of Devon have to offer for flower fans around the country and, indeed, internationally. In the local area, Yvonne’s puts added effort into spreading the word about the delights of flowers and attends the Mutley & Greenbank Festivals every year in May and December to make the most of every chance to do just that.
