There are several different styles of a Chimney Cap and the one you choose should be determined by the type of flue you have in your fireplace; square, round or rectangle. The round flue chimney cap is a popular choice.
There are two specific kinds of round flues: the double wall air cooled flue, and the triple wall air cooled flue. Double Wall Air Cooled flue is also known as a Double Wall Air Insulated flue. These have one pipe inside another. Air circulates in the open space between the two pipes to cool the flue. There is also the Triple Wall Air Cooled flue and this type of flue is also called a Triple Wall Air Insulated flue has three concentric piles. Cooling air circulates in the open spaces both between the outermost and middle pipe and between the middle pipe and innermost pipe.
There is also a Custom Chimney Cap available for each of these types of flues listed above. The round flue custom, chimney cap may be made with galvanized steel, stainless steel or copper. You get the most value from stainless steel caps. Stainless steel caps can have different types of finishes. It is amazing how many different types there are!
